ONUKA — collaborative project from well-known Ukrainian sound-producer and musician Eugene Filatov (The Maneken) and Nata Zhyzhchenko. ONUKA’s sound is an organic mix of electronic, contemporary pop music and Ukrainian folk traditions.

The first single ‘Look’ was released in 2013. Since then discography has been updated with an album ‘Onuka’(2014) and EP ‘VIDLIK’(2016).

In 2016 ONUKA introduced the new project in collaboration with The National Academic Orchestra of Folk Instruments (NAONI). Legendary Victor Gutsul conducted the performances. In May 2017, ONUKA appeared as a Special Guest in Kyiv at Eurovision Song Contest. Within a few days ‘Vidlik’ entered the top of European iTunes electronic charts (UK, France, Germany, Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark and other countries). 2017 also brought ONUKA European tour, collaboration with Deep Forest and list of awards.

Nothing is accidental. A series of events goes hand in hand with ideas and thoughts, that in the right moment creates amazing mix. That’s how something unique is born — worlds and concepts, width and depth of which grows and multiplies. The story of ONUKA is the striking example of that kind of combination. Two talented musicians — Eugene Filatov and Nata Zhyzhchenko — came together and brought to life the unique music project. Eugene is an experienced sound-producer, creator and a frontman of The Maneken. Nata is an ex-vocalist of deep-house three-piece Tomato Jaws and Kooqla band. Together they are creative team with Eugene is being responsible for sound production, meanwhile Nata — face and soul of the project. The name of the band (‘Onuka’ means ‘granddaughter’ in Ukrainian) refers us to Nata’s grandfather, who was the famous craftsman of traditional Ukrainian musical instruments. His most precious gift — handmade sopilka — is the symbol and an important element of many ONUKA’s songs. For the very first time ONUKA managed to present to the broad audience the richness of Ukrainian heritage within contemporary electronic music.

ONUKA live show is a carefully thought-out program with its own internal dramatic composition and special atmosphere. It’s an intimate experience between the audience and the musician, no matter how big the venues are.

The live-show’s cast of ONUKA is eight musicians: vocals, keyboards, rhythm section and folk instruments: two trombones, French horn, bandura and bugay.

The audience will find many surprises at almost every ONUKA’s show. Nata plays few parts on the theremin, using unique MIDI-Controller — the Tornado glove, that complete visual performance. Sometimes Eugene Filatov (The Maneken) joins the Show to perform with Nata and the musicians.
