Princess Chelsea is the recording project of New Zealand based composer, Chelsea Nikkel.
Nikkel spent the better part of her twenties developing her production and engineering skills and the result was her debut ‘Lil' Golden Book’ – a home experiment that has been called "a triumph of high concept production”. The lead single from the album ‘The Cigarette Duet’ – unexpectedly became a viral sensation on Youtube – with over 18 million views and counting.
Since the release of ‘Lil’ Golden Book’, Princess Chelsea and band have been touring Europe and the US building a dedicated cult-like fan base (Alt-J, Marina & The Diamonds & the guy from boy meets world are fans..) who have been eagerly awaiting her second album ‘The Great Cybernetic Depression’ – due for release on Flying Nun / Lil Chief Records in May 2015.
It’s lead single No Church on Sunday was described as ‘humongous and gleaming’ by Stereogum and accompanying track ‘We So Lost’ as ‘unsettling and beautiful’. Sources say the new album is set in 2023, and sounds like the universe… !
