The use of the archaic word for ‘apple’ in its Russian title, Yablonny Sad, is deliberate: the album is an amalgamation of the past and the present, poetry and rigid form, politics and lyricism, dissonances and harmonious common triads, while its expressive edginess is framed by a slow tempo and nearly sentimental lyrics.
