Megalomaniac and genius, German composer Karlheinz Stockhausen is an important pioneer of electronic music. In 1977, he began work on an ambitious opera cycle, Licht, but he fulfilled his plan only a few years before his death and the cycle was never staged. In 2019, the Netherlands National Opera took up the challenge, and Licht charts the making of this lavish, 15-hour production. But it is also a guide to the life of a musical visionary and one of the most important composers of the 20th century.
