info From peacekeeping missions in the Middle East to one of the most-streamed names in contemporary neoclassical music. Finnish pianist and composer A. Blomqvist transforms Nordic melancholy, silence and landscapes into intimate piano compositions with a cinematic atmosphere. His music has amassed over 100 million streams, reaching audiences far beyond the world of classical music. Following sold-out concerts in Finland and his first European performances, he now heads to Prague with his solo piano programme. A. Blomqvist was born in Jyväskylä, Finland, and began playing piano at the age of four. His life, however, took an unexpected direction: he served in the armed forces and later as a peacekeeper in the Middle East. In 2019, he decided to devote himself fully to music. His desire to bring peace and hope to others remained, but the piano became his new means of expression. His compositions are built around delicate melodies, the space between notes and emotions that need no grand gestures. A defining milestone came with Pohjola, released in January 2025 on Sony Masterworks/XXIM Records. A musical portrait of Finnish nature and landscapes of memory, the album connects the classical piano tradition with modern neoclassical minimalism. Blomqvist's music evokes vast Nordic horizons, shifting between solitude, nostalgia and hope. On stage, all he needs is a piano and an attentive audience. A concert where even silence finds its own voice. This concert is supported by Liveurope – the first pan-European initiative to support concert clubs in their efforts to host concerts by emerging European artists. Liveurope is co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union. |
