The Spectaculare Festival Warm Up presents the launch of Directors, a new original album by the creative duo Floex & Jan Šikl. Together, they introduce a distinctive vision of contemporary neoclassical music, balancing the exposed textures of analogue synthesizers with the rich timbre of an acoustic sextet. Rather than following familiar patterns of either electronic music or contemporary classical composition, Directors inhabits a space in between. Through the six musicians of Floex Ensemble, the project demonstrates how instrumental music can be deeply emotional and full of dramatic turns, how electronics can unfold with orchestral scope, and how classical music can carry an unexpected sense of momentum and immediacy.

Performed in immersive multichannel sound, the concert will guide audiences through an expansive four-part composition brought to life by Floex Ensemble, led by renowned Czech cellist Tomáš Jamník. Originally formed as a live vehicle for Floex’s acclaimed soundtrack work, the ensemble gradually evolved through its long-term collaboration with composer and conductor Jan Šikl into an autonomous creative group. With Directors, the ensemble officially enters a new phase of its artistic journey.

The conceptual album explores the diversity of human perception and the many ways we interpret reality. These perspectives are represented through a series of imaginary film directors, each embodying a different creative approach, worldview and method of shaping experience.

The evening will open with a performance by Finnish composer Juha Mäki-Patola, whose work inhabits the space between contemporary classical music and ambient soundscapes. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Jóhann Jóhannsson and Nils Frahm, his compositions combine intimate expression, cinematic depth and a quietly immersive atmosphere.

The concert is organised in cooperation with ARCHA+ and is supported by Liveurope – the first pan-European initiative to support concert clubs in their efforts to host concerts by emerging European artists. Liveurope is co-funded by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union.
